At first her papers had been spread out along the table, taking the whole surface area up in a mixture of muggle studies and actual witchcraft. Damara's golden hair was pulled up into a messy bun which she was using as a pincushion of sorts to hold all of her pencils. She was chewing on a wooden No. 2 while her hand was scribbling away with a quill. Ink stains ran along her fingers and she'd been using a piece of parchment to blot the stuff away, but it was still a messy process. Small grains of sand might have been better. Unfortunately she didn't have any of those on hand so she made do, trying not to use the cloth of her uniform skirt or her tie. At one point she'd been chewing thoughtfully on that too.

Eventually the Hufflepuff had gotten fed up with the precise work of handwriting and rune translations, her brain flooded with information that she couldn't sort. When everything started to blur together and her runes turned to math symbols, Damara called took a break. She rose up on her feet and stretched, taking the wand from the table and twirling it thoughtfully. She put it between her upper lip and nose, pursing her lips before taking it into her hand. "Let's an easy exercise..." she said to no one in particular. There was an empty mug on the table, the hot cocoa long gone and the rim stained brown with the residue. She needed spell practice too.

The witch took a step back, careful not to stumble over her own feet and then moved some of the papers away from the mug so that she wouldn't ruin her homework. She cleared her throat, swished and flicked all while saying "wingardium leviosa!' For a second nothing happened, her face coloring at the complete failure of her cast spell. She tried again. "Wingardium leviosa!" Again, nothing happened and in frustration Mara waved her wand irritably.

All at once the papers started to rise off the table, those that had been beneath the ink pot tipped it and it spilled all over her Charms essay. She cried out, diving for it but only managing to tear the tip as it floated high up over her reach. "No! No, nononono!" The witch's blue eyes looked around frantically for help, for Nick to miraculously appear and help her out of this mess. Each second had the papers floating higher out of her reach and she jumped up on bare feet, grasping and just missing each time.

Instinct drove her wand into the pincushion bun and she climbed up onto the table, rising on the tips of her toes and grasping at nothing but air. Most of her papers were quickly approaching ceiling levels and she knew she wasn't going to be able to get them all down. Ripping the wand from her hair and sending the other pencils there flying as her bun undid itself, she pointed and called out "ACCIO!" several sheets of paper fluttered down like a shuffling deck of cards, but as soon as she was pointing at another bunch they floated right back up.

Damara let out a screech of frustration, she wanted to hop up and tear them back down. All of that hard work gone down the drain! The witch contemplated jumping, or crying. The thick ball of frustration bunching up in her throat, tears stinging at the corners of her eyes; her jaw clenched and ached while she glared despairingly up at her homework.
